What actually happens to a chip.

A windscreen is two sheets of glass bonded to a plastic layer. A stone usually breaks only the outer sheet, which is why it can be repaired. Keep scrolling to repair this one.

  1. We check the damage

    Size, position and how old it is. You get the price before we start, and if it isn't suitable for repair, we tell you.

  2. We open a path to the break

    A fine drill reaches the air pocket under the impact point, so resin has a way in.

  3. We draw the air out

    A bridge seals onto the glass and vacuum pulls out the trapped air. That air is why a chip looks silver.

  4. Resin goes in under pressure

    Repair resin is pushed into the break and follows each leg out towards its tip.

  5. UV light sets it hard

    An ultraviolet lamp cures the resin where it sits, bonding the break.

  6. We scrape and polish

    Excess resin comes off and the surface is polished. A small scar stays visible. A repair stops damage spreading; it doesn't erase it.

Before and after, honestly.

Air in the break is what catches the light. Once resin replaces it, there is far less to see. But a repair isn't a magic trick: a small scar stays. The point is keeping the windscreen you've got.

Will the chip disappear?
No. A repair stabilises the damage and lowers the risk of it spreading, but it doesn't remove it. A small scar stays visible and we don't guarantee how it will look. The point is keeping your windscreen.
Can the glass crack while you're repairing it?
Yes, it can, because the damage has already weakened the glass. If we think your chip has a higher risk, we'll tell you before we start. If it does run during the repair, we decide what's fair to charge and we never charge more than the price you agreed.
Do I need to book?
Not for the kiosk. Pull into the bay by the tent during opening hours. Mobile repairs are booked online with a photo of the damage, and we confirm a time with you.
How long does it take?
The repair itself takes about 15 minutes for most chips. Allow around half an hour for the whole visit. Cracks take longer.
Will my insurance pay for it?
Some comprehensive policies cover windscreen repair, but every policy is different. We don't deal with insurers or lodge claims. You pay us on the day and we give you an itemised tax invoice, which you can use however you like. Check your policy first.
My car has a camera behind the windscreen. Does that matter?
Tell us before we start. We don't calibrate or check driver assistance systems, and damage or a repair in front of a camera or sensor can affect how they work.
What if it can't be repaired?
We'll tell you, and we don't charge for work we decline or stop before finishing. We don't replace windscreens ourselves.
